Minimum Qualifications Promotional/list appointment: Candidate must have one year of service as Administrative Assistant 1 and be eligible for appointment from the Secretary 2 (now Administrative Assistant 2) eligible list for permanent appointment.

Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent service in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 or 70.4 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.

Provisional appointment: In the event that there is not a valid eligible list for this title in this location, or there are less than three acceptors from a valid list, candidates who meet the following promotion qualifications may be appointed provisionally. To qualify, candidates must have served one year in permanent status as an Administrative Assistant 1.

If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

If you have not already demonstrated proficiency in keyboarding, you will have to demonstrate that you meet the minimum proficiency and will be required to pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates your ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy.

Duties Description The position will provide administrative support to professional staff in PERB's Brooklyn Regional Office. Duties to include but are not limited to the following:
• Oversee the administrative responsibilities of the office.
• Enter incoming cases on docket.
• Prepare correspondence, memoranda, reports, and decisions from handwritten and typed copy using Word.
• Open, sort and deliver incoming mail.
• Data entry in multiple databases for case management and reporting using Access.
• Answer telephone and respond to routine inquiries.
• Arrange travel for professional staff.
• Scan, copy and file documents. Distribute or file as needed.
• Submit help-desk tickets to ITS for routine incidents or equipment requests.
• Act as OGS liaison for routine building and equipment maintenance.
• Ensure all issues and events of the Brooklyn Regional office are coordinated with PERB’s main office in Albany.
• Review and prepare documents within files for the preparation of record storage in a timely manner.
• Train incoming staff on PERB policy and administrative procedure.
• Perform other administrative duties as necessary.
