Minimum Qualifications There are no Civil Service minimum qualifications. Qualifications for each seasonal position are based on operating needs and vary based on the assigned work location and job title.
Duties Description Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Electrician, the incumbent will perform or assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial electrical equipment, and primary and secondary electrical infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, repair and\or installation of panel boxes, control panels, lighting fixtures, generators, motors, and controls, as well as overhead and underground electrical distribution system components. The selected candidate must have an appropriate background with education, knowledge and/or significant experience working with electricity.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Work shift may vary to include weekends and holidays as necessary, but will commonly be Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• The selected candidate must be able to respond to call-outs outside of their normal schedule.
• Must possess a valid Class A*** Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one at their own expense and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• The incumbent must be able to operate or learn how to operate a bucket truck, Timberjack Digger Derrick, and a tracked Altec Digger Derrick.
• The selected candidate must possess a working knowledge of electricity and have verifiable electrical experience and/or successful completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
• The incumbent must be certified or become certified in Municipal Electric Utilities Association of New York State (MEUA) Lineman Training Program.
• The selected candidate must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
The incumbent should have good knowledge of, and the ability to operate the basic power tools, hand tools, and equipment related to the electrical trade and utility line work.
***Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment and random post-employment drug and alcohol testing.
