Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Required experience: two years of hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers and/or auxiliary equipment or HVAC equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities an associate degree in plant Utilities Technology or the equivalent.
Applicants with experience limited to residential applications do not meet the required experience.
Required education: associate degree or higher in Plant Utilities Technology or related field.
Applicants possessing a bachelor or higher-level degree in Plant Utilities Technology, or a related field will meet the required education and experience requirements.
Applicants may also be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title.
Duties Description Duties will include but are not limited to: Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test, and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, direct digital and analog control systems and electrical distribution. Use computer programs such as LATS, AIM, etc.
Operational Needs:
This is a 24/7 shift operation - shift assignment is subject to bidding based on OGS City of Utica Seniority time and may be subject to change based on operational requirements.
Additional Comments *There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired before May 2024 will be appointed on a temporary basis. In May 2024, satisfactory employees will receive permanent, non-competitive appointments and will begin a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
