Duties Description Emergency Management
This position is in the DEC Emergency Management Unit. The incumbent will support agency emergency preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation functions.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Provides analysis and recommendations to the Director of Emergency Management related to geological aspects of natural disasters during the mitigation, planning, response, and recovery phases.
• Provides project management expertise to the geographic response plan program while prioritizing workload and addressing all plan technical and administrative needs.
• Provides geological recommendation and analysis supporting multi-agency task forces and committees on issues related to emergency response and homeland security.
• Provides analysis in support of the development of agency Emergency Response Plans.
• Utilizes Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or remote sensing instruments, techniques and software; interpreting historical land use, land forms or environmental conditions from imagery, maps or other records to assess impacts during disasters.
• Evaluates impacts to existing groundwater and surface water supplies related to significant incidents and/or emergencies.
• Conducts initial assessment, determination, and recommendation regarding aquifer impacts from contamination related to natural or human made disasters.
• Provides risk based geological recommendation in relation to planning and responding to emergency situations.
• Analyzes geologic and hydrogeologic studies, reports, investigations, and management plans and their impacts to the response to and recovery from disasters and emergencies.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
