Minimum Qualifications A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree* or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience in sanitary, public health, or environmental engineering.

OR:

Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental), Grade 24, OR a New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title eligible for transfer, via 70.1, to a Professional Engineer 1 (Environment), Grade 24.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience reviewing engineering plans for water supplies, spray ground, swimming pools, realty subdivisions, and other areas of focus. The preferred candidate will also have familiarity with regulations for drinking water, swimming pool, emerging contaminants, polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), lead, and harmful algae blooms.

Duties Description The Professional Engineer (PE) 1 (Environmental) will complete engineering plan reviews of drinking water systems, realty subdivisions, swimming pools, and other areas of focus. The position will also conduct sanitary surveys of public water systems, provide technical assistance to staff and the public, and issue violations/enforcement actions to noncompliant facilities. The position will also enforce complex regulations for emerging contaminants, such as PFAS, and lead and harmful algae blooms.
