Duties Description Printing and Post Processing
• Operate print and post print processing equipment for various jobs submitted throughout the day.
• Align and configure printers and post print equipment.
• Remove completed jobs from post processing equipment and inspect for quality control.
• Record, label and distribute print batches.
• Load print output (upwards of 50 lbs.) and use pallet jack to move inventory throughout the facility.
• Perform regular leaning and basic maintenance of print and post print equipment.
Monitor Console
• Monitor job console to verify batch programs and data transfers are properly executing.
• Initiate and monitor production jobs and communicate statuses to appropriate teams (e.g., scheduling staff etc.) for resolution.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure that full workflow is successfully completed.
Operate Tape Drives and Robotic Devices
• Prepare (clean and mount) and assign physical and virtual media.
• Monitor tape silo robotic arm.
• Prepare media for transport to offsite storage.
• Document, erase and prepare media for destruction.

No exam required under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) Program. For appointment to the COMPUTER OPERATOR position you must have:
High School diploma or have earned a high cool equivalency diploma AND at least one of the following:
Either
1. Six or more college semester credit hours in a computer-related field such as Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or Computer Information Systems.
OR
2. Successful completion of high school vocational studies related to large scale Computer Information Systems.
OR
3. Six months full-time experience in the operation of a mainframe or medium to-large server complex, multi-variable print production.
*Use or operation of personal computers or personal printing will NOT be considered qualifying.
Competitive Qualifications:
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

70.1 Transfer:
For a 70.1 transfer to a(n) Computer Operator, SG-10, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in an approved 70.1 title allocated to a salary grade 08 or above.
Appointments via transfer must not result in second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, both verbally and in written format with peers, management, vendors, technical staff etc.

• Demonstrate ability to maintain production requirements while ensuring quality control standards are continually maintained.

Telecommuting:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period.
