Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14 or higher-level designee, the incumbent will perform dam maintenance as well as operate and assist in maintaining heavy equipment for the regional maintenance department located at Bear Mountain State Park. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Operate dozers, front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators, mowers, etc.
• Haul work materials and complete equipment layout for each assignment.
• Maintain and repair equipment, including snow removal equipment.
• Utilize a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, chain saws, and construction equipment appropriate to the work assigned for skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair, installation, and construction; troubleshoot and make necessary repairs when completing assigned tasks.
• Assist in planning and laying out projects; read and interpret plans, diagrams, and specifications.
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment as well as less complex engine and component repair.
• Supervise and train lower-level staff as needed, ensuring that instructions have been followed and the quality of work is satisfactory.
• Work effectively in a team setting and demonstrate flexibility in tasks and schedules.
• Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess a valid Class A* Commercial Driver’s License with airbrake and tanker endorsements that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.***
• Must have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in assigned craft.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete Game of Logging or Parks approved chainsaw operator course within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have knowledge of dam maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
• Must be able to work the following schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:00AM-3:30PM, may vary to include occasional weekends, nights, and holidays.
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug, and alcohol testing.

Location Pay:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($48,956) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($59,757) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
