Salary RangeFrom $75000 to $85000 Annually
Duties Description The New York State Senate Minority Conference is seeking applicants to fill the position of Counsel. Counsel will work as part of a team on behalf of the Senate Republican Leader, Senators, and relevant central and member staff to research and review legislation, policy proposals, and laws.
In this dynamic role, you will:
•Provide legal, policy and budget analysis for the Senate Republican Conference;
•Track committees and legislation active in the state Senate and state Assembly;
•Conduct legal and policy-related research;
•Prepare materials and briefing Senators and staff on legislation, policy initiatives, and regulatory changes;
•Assist Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums and other public meetings and events;
•Work with Albany and statewide staff to assist Senators in drafting and analyzing legislation and policy;
•Meet with and build relationships with relevant stakeholders, advocacy, and constituency groups; and
•Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess:
•Juris Doctor (JD) degree
•Strong writing and oratory skills
•Have ability to work nights and weekend work required, as needed
•Experience in a legislative, political, or governmental context is preferred.
Additionally, candidates must live and work in the Capital Region of New York.
Additional Comments Salary range: is $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with education and experience.
