Duties Description The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is seeking qualified candidates for consideration to serve as a Senior Investigator (SI) in the Canine Unit. The Canine Unit interdicts controlled substances and contraband electronic devices brought into correctional facilities by inmates, visitors, or staff. To help achieve these goals, The Canine Unit has over 26 Canine Teams.
The SI is the sixth-level leadership and supervisory level role responsible for overseeing activities within OSI’s Canine Division. The SI will report directly to the Deputy Chief Investigator for the Canine Division. A SI is required to manage a caseload; supervise Canine Investigators; lead small groups on assignments; and assist with the development of strategies, operations, and tactics. This SI will be responsible for field supervision of Canine Teams and Canine operations, conducting routine facility visits and evaluating Canine Handlers and their dogs.

Minimum Qualifications Given the nature of this supervisory position, the qualifications include at least four years’ investigative experience and at least three years’ experience as a Canine Handler. Candidates should also have exhibited demonstrated leadership, management, and supervisory potential. Additionally, candidates should have a strong track record of work in OSI. This position will require a high degree of organizational and writing skills, as well as must be available to respond immediately to incidents and possibly remain in the area as needed. As with all positions in OSI, this position requires the highest levels of behavior including personal integrity, character, activities and affiliations, judgment, appearance and fitness in accordance with Departmental Directives, attitude, respect for and ability to work with others inside and outside OSI. The SI position in OSI is a Management Confidential (MC) position, requiring a BDA and approval by the Division of Budget, among other required approvals.
OSI investigative staff must possess, at a minimum, knowledge of the applicable laws, the highest levels of behavior including personal integrity and ethics; fairness; character; judgment; attitude; and respect for and ability to work with others inside and outside OSI. Appropriate licensure and certifications (including being or becoming a peace officer qualified to carry a firearm) are also required. The ability to travel is also necessary.
