Duties Description Under the direction of the Accessibility Team Lead, the Accessibility QA Lead will be responsible for developing and executing detailed accessibility test plans for deep audits and assessments of New York State’s digital services. This role will focus on ensuring that digital properties comply with WCAG standards by creating structured test plans, running assessments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to guide the remediation process.
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented professional with expertise in accessibility standards and quality assurance, who can manage deep assessments, create actionable test plans, and help guide teams through the remediation process.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Create and implement detailed test plans for deep accessibility audits and assessments of New York State websites and applications, ensuring compliance with the latest WCAG standards;
- Lead the development and execution of manual accessibility tests to validate the accessibility of websites and digital applications and provide structured recommendations for remediation;
- Collaborate with Accessibility Team to provide insights on accessibility issues for high-level audits and clear, structured recommendations that teams can use to improve accessibility;
- Create test plans that cover all critical areas of accessibility compliance and usability;
- Develop documentation and clear, structured reporting for audit results, including risk assessments and clear and well-organized recommendations for remediation;
- Continuously research and stay updated on WCAG updates and trends in accessible design, ensuring that the guidelines and processes remain current and effective;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, developers, and QA, to ensure that remediation recommendations are aligned with both design and technical needs.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science;
- or a bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology;
- or 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology;
- or two years of professional experience in information technology.
Preferred qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience in quality assurance, accessibility testing, or a related field, with a focus on compliance with WCAG standards;
- Strong experience creating and executing detailed test plans for accessibility audits, including manual and automated testing;
- Experience creating design guidelines and standards that support accessible design and development practices;
- Familiarity with manual and automated accessibility testing tools such as WAVE, Axe, pa11y, and Accessibility Insights;
- Demonstrated experience providing clear and actionable remediation recommendations on accessibility issues, with the ability to articulate solutions effectively to cross-functional teams;
- Certifications such as CPACC, WAS, or Trusted Tester are a strong plus;
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside developers, designers, and QA teams;
- Attention to detail and a passion for ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
