Duties Description The Assistant Director - Talent Acquisition and Recruitment is a dynamic leadership role that will lead and expand our recruitment efforts, overseeing the entire talent acquisition strategy for NYSTRS. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this role will play a pivotal role in meeting our hiring goals, scaling our recruitment processes, and driving initiatives that position NYSTRS as an employer of choice.
The duties of the Assistant Director - Talent Acquisition and Recruitment include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Manage, mentor, and grow a team of recruiters, talent acquisition specialists, and support staff
Establish a high-performing culture within the Talent Acquisition & Recruitment team, ensuring excellent candidate experiences and continuous development for all team members
Partners with the senior leadership team to understand and execute the organization's talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning
Drive initiatives for recruitment marketing and branding, and employee referrals, fostering a strong candidate pipeline
Create and implement programming to support employee career development and career-pathing options
Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
Support recruitment efforts for senior and executive-level roles, ensuring top talent alignment with organizational goals
Design a seamless, engaging, and inclusive candidate experience from initial contact through onboarding
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, and talent management
Develop and present reports on recruiting metrics and trends to support data-driven decision-making and forecasting
Maintain strong relationships with hiring managers, acting as an effective strategic partner throughout the recruitment process
Minimum Qualifications Masters degree and six years of experience working in a role where the main duties included recruitment, civil service administration, talent acquisition, benefits administration, payroll administration, employee relations or other functions typical of a human resources office and three years of direct supervisory experience of at least one subordinate OR
Bachelors degree and eight years experience working in a human resources office and three years of direct supervisory experience of at least one subordinate OR
Associates degree and ten years experience working in a human resources office and three years of direct supervisory experience of at least one subordinate.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS and talent management systems
