Duties Description As a Social Work Assistant 2 at Central New York Psychiatric Center, you will manage a caseload for individuals with more complicated behavioral disorders including:

• Interviewing individuals and their families to gather background information
• Preparing case histories and determining eligibility for services
• Advocating and assisting individuals in identifying and obtaining services
• Supervising Social Work Assistant 1 and direct care staff

NOTE:
1. If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

Minimum Qualifications Central New York Psychiatric Center is recruiting for Social Work Assistant 2 to provide case management and service coordination activities for individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have a bachelor’s degree in a human service field and 2 year of social work experience.

Substitution: Master’s degree in social work can substitute for 1 year of specialized experience.

OR

Candidates within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Social Work Assistant 3 eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

OR

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Social Work Assistant 2 at Central New York Psychiatric Center.

Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

The promotion field for the Social Work Assistant 2 position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a Social Work Assistant 1.
