Duties Description Perform complex technical duties in support of the Photogrammetry Section in the Design Mapping and Automation Bureau. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• The use of digital photogrammetric workstations for the compilation of mapping projects, digital terrain, and orthoimagery following standard specifications and procedures. May also perform special tasks and assignments including aerotriangulation measurement, aerotriangulation adjustment, and special LiDAR mapping.
• The review and edit of digital photogrammetric mapping and digital terrain following standard specifications and procedures. May also perform special tasks and assignments including contract vendor mapping review or digital terrain accuracy analysis.
• The acquisition and evaluation of aerial photography, point cloud data (LiDAR), and stereocompilation services by private firms. Coordination with regional design staff to determine project requirements. Preparation of written correspondence and specifications. Development and monitoring of project schedules and technical requirements.
• The use of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) to acquire aerial imagery. The Creation of 3D models, orthoimagery, and point cloud data from the UAS imagery. Preparation of written correspondence and specifications regarding the Photogrammetry Section UAS program. Development and monitoring of project schedules and technical requirements for UAS projects.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Either 1. Five years of technical experience in the fields of mapping or digital photogrammetry;**
Or
2. a bachelor’s degree, including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in remote sensing, statistics, spatial analysis, CADD, UAS mapping and aviation, cartography, LiDAR, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, and/or photogrammetry;***
**Use of GIS or CAD tools to create high accuracy base maps through digitizing and other data entry methods, in accordance with industry-accepted and well documented base mapping specifications and procedures, which may form the foundation of GIS user applications will be considered mapping experience (or photogrammetric experience if applicable). Experience limited to automatically generated CAD or GIS map creation will NOT be considered as appropriate experience.

Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Vision Test: A vision test including near vison, far vision, and stereo vision will be required prior to appointment. Additional Comments *For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
