Salary RangeFrom $80000 to $80000 Annually
Duties Description The Counsel assists the Committee staff in providing basic professional services to support the duties and responsibilities of the committee. Teh Counselis responsible for:
- Analyzing legislation for legal and constitutional implications;
- Researching legal issues;
- Preparing preliminary drafts of bills on requests, including program proposals
- Assisting in the preparation of analytical memoranda relating to bills;
- Performing other staff functions, such as preparation for public hearings and private conference, completion of research reports and meeting with individuals and groups regarding legislation.
Minimum Qualifications -Candidate must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, be admitted to practice law in NYS (preferred, but not required).
-Demonstrates strong negotiation and communication skills
-Preferred to have legislative bill drafting experience (NYS Tax Law preferred but not required)
-Excellent legal research and writing skills
-Strong professional judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills.
