Duties Description The Department of Modern Languages at the State University of New York at Old Westbury is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Spanish Language Media and Film Creation starting in the Fall 2025. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses focused on the creation of media content in Spanish, contribute to the development of new academic programs in Spanish-Language Media Creation, and work with students to produce media content for the university. This faculty member will also serve as a liaison between the Modern Languages Department and the American Studies and Media & Communications Department, facilitating collaboration and the integration of Spanish-language media creation within the broader media curriculum. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in the media professional ecosystem, particularly in Spanish-language content creation, along with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration. Community engagement and experience in culturally diverse settings will be highly valued. Ability to teach Latina/o Studies or Media Studies courses in area of expertise is required. A focus on the study of media and culture, queer studies and/or sexuality, contemporary immigration, or movements for social justice is a plus. Candidates with experience in community-based activism or social justice advocacy are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of innovative media forms and their impact on and promise for Latina/o communities is an asset.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or MFA in Media Studies, Film Production, Communication, or a related field. A strong background in Spanish-language media, linguistics, or cultural studies is desirable.
Advanced proficiency in Spanish (native or near-native fluency) is required, with the ability to teach and create content in Spanish.


Preferred Qualifications:

Significant professional experience in the media industry, particularly in the creation of Spanish-language content (film, television, digital media, etc.), with a demonstrated portfolio of work.
Experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate students in media production at the college level.
Proficiency in media production tools and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, etc.).
Familiarity with current trends in digital media, social media platforms, and the Spanish-language media ecosystem.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Experience working with diverse student populations and communities.

Additional Comments Salary Range: up to $75,000.00, commensurate with education and experience (plus location pay $4,000.00)
