Duties Description Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit is recruiting a physician to serve as a Medical Specialist 2. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.
As a Medical Specialist 2 at Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit, you will diagnose, treat, prescribe, and provide specialized medical care and treatment services to individuals with mental illness including:
• Conducting physical examinations; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and treating medical conditions.
• Prescribing medications, therapies, vaccinations, and other specialized medical care, modifying treatment as needed.
• Collaborating with other healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve treatment goals and objectives.
• Maintaining medical documentation consistent with agency, State, and federal requirements.
• Participating in discharge planning and collaborating with other providers and disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are licensed to practice medicine in New York State and have certification by Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in your specialty.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Additional Comments Medical Specialists 2 have an opportunity to earn up to 50% of their salary by volunteering to provide evening, night, and weekend coverage. Regular work week is 40 hours.
Posted salary is for full time position.

This position is eligible for a Down State adjustment of $3,400.

If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
3. License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
