Duties Description Under the supervision of the Deputy Director Rehab, the Assistant Director of Nursing Rehab directs the day to day operations of the Utilization Review, Medical Records, Performance Improvement and the Case Management Departments. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with IRF PAI/MDS completion and audits for accuracy and to promote continuous performance improvement. Abstract charts for quality measure data and identify opportunities for process improvement. Coordinates appeals for denials with Department Heads. Ensure optimization of Inpatient stay reimbursement. Identify medical necessity issues concurrently. Supervises the Medical Records Department ensuring regulations are followed regarding safeguarding patients EMR. Responsible for hospital Performance Improvement oversight and tracking, enhancing the quality of care, operational efficiency, and improving patient outcomes within the hospital setting, requiring strategic planning, data analysis, and collaboration with various interdisciplinary departments. In addition, this position will also be tasked with overseeing the Case Management Department. Ensuring that patients/residents receive high-quality care and services, requiring strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with an understanding of relevant laws and best practices in case management. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; a bachelor's degree in nursing; and two years of post-licensure professional clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital or acute physical rehabilitation hospital. One year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.
Minimum Qualifications Substitution:
A master’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of non-supervisory post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
Additional Comments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
• BSN in New York State.
• Good organizational & critical thinking skills, knowledge of value based purchasing, quality measures, CMS regulatory guidance and initiatives.
• Proficient in Microsoft word, excel and Meditech
• Knowledge of Inpatient rehab facility & patient assessment instrument (IRFPAI/MDS)
• Experience with chart abstraction to ascertain medical necessity & outcome
• CRRN/ACLS certification
