Duties Description Handle New Mail
• Prepare incoming correspondence for scanning and indexing
• Image and archive mail according to record retention policies

Scan, Set up & Index claims.
• Scan documentation into Datacap imaging system for further processing
• Access Datacap and other OUF systems to setup claims
• Review scanned images, search and identify appropriate claims to link and index images and transition claims for further processing

Process claims
• Review and process claims, perform database searches using information provided by claimants
• Identify and link additional claim properties
• Determine and request in writing (generate correspondence) required proof and documentation
• Recommend payment according to agency rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.

Serve as power user and subject matter expert in SCII
• Assist in training the newly hired entry level employees (Office Assistant 1) to perform database searches, identifying, and linking claim properties, and scanning and archiving mail
• Serve as backup supervisor in the absence of the UFE 1
• Assist with testing and system changes, upgrades, and enhancements to Datacap and other OUF systems

Minimum Qualifications You must be currently reachable on the appropriate or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

For 70.1 transfer to an Office Assistant 2, salary grade (SG)-09, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-07 or above.

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

Non-Competitive promotion (NCP) qualifications:
You must be a qualified employee of the Office of the New York State Comptroller and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Office Assistant 1 or one year of permanent service in a clerical or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher.

NCP notes:
If the number of interested candidates who meet the promotional qualifications is three or less, the agency; at its discretion, may nominate one or more of the candidates for a noncompetitive promotion without further examination under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law.
