Duties Description This position is located with the Division of Operations' Bureau of Recreation. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
General clerical duties and customer service functions; from answering and responding to telephone and email inquires from the public, to managing records, files and supplies. This role will serve as the first level for customer service, fielding questions, inquires and complaints from the public.
Duties will also include receiving, processing and delivering mail, correspondence, copying and scanning. The position will also prepare, review and edit documents and packages for shipment. Also the processing and tracking program funds, purchases, payments and reconciliation of business transactions, accounts and reports.
Will also assist with the organization and delivery of events, training, and promotions, including assembling program information packets and recruitment and hiring materials.
The position will be responsible for tracking inventory and organizing paperwork and reports as well as tracking staff schedules, calendars, inventories and operating common office equipment.
Must be proficient in general office and business software, including Microsoft office suite of products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and other databases.
Will be program's contact for processing transactions and using the agency's financial systems SFS.
Will be required to regularly use program specific web applications, including reservation systems, to process standardized transactions and information inquiries.
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented with excellent interpersonal skills with staff and the public. Will be required to work as a member of a team and show the ability to work independently, while demonstrating reliability, confidence and trustworthiness. Must possess effective communication skills (oral and written).
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications below:
There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title. However, prior to being considered for appointment, you will be required to pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates your ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy.
Candidates may also be appointed via the following:
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC.
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 4 or higher and eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
