Duties Description Operate a variety of manual and self-propelled material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, machines in connection with the receiving, storing, repackaging, and shipping of USDA foods.
• Verify monthly distribution amounts selected by warehouse staff to be released to customers.
• Locate USDA foods by code, name, pack date and move appropriate amounts to an assembly or staging area to re-palletize the order into a compact shipping module for shipment.
• Take preliminary inventories and inspect USDA foods for damage, weight, or improper storage and handling. Report discrepancies immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required.
Operational Needs:
• One year of practical experience in performing general construction or maintenance tasks.
• When required to operate a self-propelled motorized vehicle, incumbents must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated.
Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator;
OR
Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade.
When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Application Process - Candidates are required to provide specific, verifiable information about their qualifying experience with the Application for Posted Position (ADM 227). This information should be on the letterhead of the employer under whom the qualifying experience was gained and include names and titles of supervisors, duties performed during the training period and specific dates of employment and be signed by that employer.
• Candidates qualifying through the completion of appropriate course work should include a copy of their transcript or listing of course work completed.
• A copy of a trade’s union card is acceptable documentary proof of qualification.
• Candidates who do not submit appropriate documentary proof that they meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered for appointment.
Per Agreement between the Civil Service Employees Association, Inc. and the State of New York, Article 45 (d) the requirement to prove qualification shall rest with the employee.
NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES SHOULD INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES ALONG WITH THE HOURS PER WEEK FOR EACH POSITION LISTED.
