Duties Description Duties may include:
• Provide supervision to assigned CVS 1 staff
• Instruct and train staff on agency policies, procedures, and workflows
• Work with claimants, victims/survivors, victim assistance programs, law enforcement, and medical providers to handle complex claims and complaints in a timely manner
• Review and approve claim decision and payment recommendations
• Review re-open and appeal requests for claims processed by staff
• Monitor time and attendance of staff under their supervision to ensure compliance with agency policies and office coverage
• Monitor the workload of staff under their supervision and develop strategies to assist their staff in maintaining a manageable workload
• Complete probation and evaluation reports for staff under their supervision in a timely manner
• Process Forensic Rape Exam (FRE) claims as needed
• Conducting training, internally and externally, on OVS rules, regulations, and guidelines for compensation
• Attend off-site meetings, trainings, and events (occasionally)
• Lead and participate in meetings as required
• Translate documents and provide interpretation as needed for other OVS staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
There is the potential of 10% travel associated with this position, including overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications For provisional appointment: One-year permanent competitive service as a Crime Victim Specialist 1, Crime Victim Specialist 1 Spanish Language, or Crime Victim Trainee.
If appointed provisionally, you must take the next examination for this title. In order to remain in this position, your score must be high enough to qualify you as one of the top three acceptors on the eligible list.
A permanent appointment may be possible, pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, if there are three or fewer interested candidates who meet the following qualifications: Current OVS employee and one year of permanent competitive service in the title Crime Victim Specialist 1, Crime Victim Specialist 1 Spanish Language, or Crime Victim Trainee.
If you are selected for appointment as a Crime Victims Specialist 2 (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in that language. Proficiency must be at a level which will permit you to perform the duties of the position satisfactorily.
