Duties Description As an Environmental Engineering Technician 1, the incumbent will assist regional Mined Land Reclamation Specialists and other staff in the implementation of the mined land reclamation law. Duties include:
-Perform site inspections of mines to evaluate existing conditions for compliance with permit conditions.
-Issue inspection letters and Notices of Violation.
-Assess reclamation work to ensure compliance with approved plans and to approve reclamation or require remedial actions where appropriate.
-Calculate reclamation financial security amounts to ensure performance of reclamation.
-Investigate general mining complaints from the general public.
-Maintain the Mined Land Database.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;
OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;
OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;
OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
