Duties Description Hutchings Psychiatric Center (HPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited hospital, is recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing 1, Psychiatric (ADON) to serve as the Inpatient Assistant Director of Nursing (Inpatient ADON), who would provide nursing leadership to all nursing staff assigned to HPC’s Inpatient units.
As the Inpatient ADON you will report to the Director of Nursing 3, Psychiatry (DON), and assist in the management, oversight, and evaluation of nursing and direct care services including:
• Assisting with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
• Monitoring nursing coverage plan for inpatient services.
• Assisting with the recruitment and retention of nursing staff.
• Contributing to the interpretation of rules, laws, regulations, guidelines, polices, and procedures.
• Monitoring and reviewing unit clinical and administrative needs through scheduling.
• Reviewing and complete performance evaluations and probation reports and monitor attendance of subordinate staff.
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with various accreditation standards for nursing services.
• Ensuring Joint Commission and CMS Standards compliance.
• Ensuring active treatment/nursing documentation is complete and recorded for each patient.
• Responsible for safe levels related to unit acuity of inpatient unit staffing during off tours, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside and within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program as an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric if they have:
• Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and
• Bachelor's degree in nursing; and
• Two years of post-licensure professional clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder. One year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.
Substitution: Master’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of non-supervisory post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Mental Hygiene Nursing Program Coordinator eligible list.
OR
Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric at Hutchings Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.
The promotion field for the Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric.

Additional Comments:
Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for M/C M-1 ($90,931), an Increase Hiring Rate ($16,008), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($114,940), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000).

1. If you fail to maintain your license and/or registration once you are appointed, action will be taken to remove you from the position.
2. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
