Duties Description Hutchings Psychiatric Center (HPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited hospital, is recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing 1, Psychiatric (ADON) for Quality, Education, & Training for the nursing department.

As an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric, you will report to the Director of Nursing 3, Psychiatry (DON), and will be responsible for developing and monitoring the entire nursing department training curriculum and competencies including:

• Assisting the DON in establishing and implementing nursing philosophy, objectives, policies and standards in accordance with OMH, The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), facility specific, and other accreditation agency standards.
• Implementing Evidence-based best practice and uphold the standards of care in nursing.
• Responsibility for the Nursing education program for all nursing services including nurse Residency program, pathway to excellence; developing classes that ensure competencies and staff development, assign outside training and schedule GOER training for all Inpatient services.
• Responsibility for nursing competencies, training & development, nursing orientation, and nursing monthly quality reports, including chart review. Monitoring completion and quality of Quarterly competencies for all inpatient and outpatient nursing staff.
• Educating and familiarizing nursing staff with the OMH and facility mission statement and strategic plan and foster staff to deliver high-quality nursing care.
• Developing nursing clinical workflows and training for all nursing services.
• Developing, implementing, and updating nursing policies and procedures for Inpatient and Outpatient services.
• Disseminating information on Nursing Policy and Procedures.
• Evaluating and adjusting nursing training programs as needed.
• Serving as a role model for staff and consult with them on the delivery of patient care.
• Training nursing staff on emergency procedures, transport of patient, patient acuity, and individualized crisis plans for acute patients, etc.
• Monitoring Nursing Department policy compliance.
• Ensuring that nursing chart notes, treatment plans are appropriate, and medical tracking is completed.
• Reviewing and completing performance evaluations and probation reports and monitor attendance of subordinate staff.
• Collaborating with the Quality Management Department and Education & Training to ensure that nursing care meets governing body and OMH standards.
• Developing and participating in quality of care/performance improvement initiatives of the department and facility.
• Monitoring data, trends, and plan of correction for National Patient Safety Goals and high-risk nursing processes.
• Collaborating with other nursing leadership regarding patient issues, staffing issues, policies and medical equipment and medical supplies.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside and within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program as an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric if they have:

• Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and
• Bachelor's degree in nursing; and
• Two years of post-licensure professional clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder. One year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.

Substitution: Master’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of non-supervisory post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Mental Hygiene Nursing Program Coordinator eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

OR

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric at Hutchings Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

The promotion field for the Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric.

Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for M/C M-1 ($90,931), an Increase Hiring Rate ($16,008), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($114,940), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000).
