Duties Description A Highway Maintenance Worker 2 will be responsible for the following: assisting and training other employees and workers; providing direction to highway maintenance crews as lead workers, directing the performance of specific tasks assigned by a Highway Maintenance Supervisor; and, when acting as a lead worker, making assignments, providing instructions, and overseeing and assisting work and keeping appropriate records.
Individuals selected must be able to respond the emergency callout within 1 hour during inclement weather, including snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.
The selected individual will perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. The selected individual will be expected to operate plows during winter operations and to obtain the equipment certifications listed above.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 and possess NYSDOT certification to operate at least two additional types of Category 2 equipment and at least two types of Category 3 equipment (minimum of 9 certifications total). NOTE: Higher category certification may be used in place of lower category certifications.
Operating need at the posted work location requires that individuals responding to this posting be certified on the Double Wing Snow Plow within one year of appointment to the position. However, if the general nature of this posting requirement is of sufficient urgency to the operating need of the Residency, the candidate will be expected to obtain certification as quickly as possible within the established training and evaluation procedures. Failure to obtain and hold certification on the specified equipment will result in removal of the candidate from the position.

The starting salary for this position is $54,081. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $45,081 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.
