Duties Description Under the direction of the Deputy Administrator, the Nutrition Services Administrator 1 will develop, review, implement, and monitor nutrition program policies and procedures and oversee the development and maintenance of nutrition manuals and guidance materials. Ensures the department is compliant and prepared for Veterans Affairs and Department of Health surveys. The Nutrition Services Administrator 1 is responsible for conducting and supervising the inspection of food preparation, service areas, and meals, as well as developing, reviewing, and overseeing the implementation of corrective action plans to ensure compliance with nutrition plans, standards, regulations, and requirements. Consults with nutrition and healthcare staff to coordinate care, resolve issues and concerns, and ensures that individuals' nutritional needs are met. The role also involves conducting and reviewing nutrition assessments, as well as developing, reviewing, and evaluating special diets, menus, and food plans, which include modifications, substitutions, and recipe standardization. The role also involves the development of nutrition program budgets and the monitoring of fund expenditures. The role also involves supervising food and nutrition staff, providing guidance, direction, and training on nutrition counseling, policy and procedures, and food preparation, sanitation, and safety standards. It also involves determining and overseeing staff assignments, monitoring and evaluating performance, identifying training needs, conducting or arranging for the provision of training, and participating in staff recruitment, selection, and orientation processes.

Minimum Qualifications HELPS: Candidates from outside and within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NYHELPS) program as a Nutrition Services Administrator 1 if they have current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or certification in Dietetics-Nutrition by the NYSED; and two years of post-registration/certification professional administrative experience in a food or nutrition program, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level.

Transfer Opportunity: Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Dietitian 2; and have current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or certification in Dietetics - Nutrition by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
