Duties Description The Public Health Educator will lead the development and implementation of evidence-based education and communication strategies designed to address these challenges. This role will work across the Bureau of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases, the Bureau of Vaccine Programs, and the Bureau of School Immunizations to ensure consistent, accurate, and culturally appropriate messaging that resonates with diverse populations throughout the state. This position will also support community engagement, provider training, and public outreach efforts that build trust, promote informed decision-making, and reduce disparities in vaccination uptake. 

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) employee serving as a Public Health Educator. Transfer: Current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent, competitive service in a title allocated to G20 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Serice Law by also meeting the following Provisional minimum qualifications. Provisional/NY HELPS: Bachelor's degree in public health, education, communication, health promotion, health science, health education and/or health communications; and three years of experience developing and implementing a public health or health education program that includes an outreach component. Substitution: master’s degree in public health, education, communication, health promotion, health science, health education and/or health communications may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Have the ability to translate technical information for lay audiences. The candidate will also have experience in public health education or communication. The candidate will demonstrate experience in developing and implementing culturally responsive health education or outreach strategies and be proficient in plain language writing, health literacy best practices, and multimedia communication tools.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time appointment. Transfer candidates may be asked for a social security number to verify transfer eligibility.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
