Duties Description Duties Description:
The Office of Counsel to the Majority (OCTM) acts as in-house counsel to the New York State Assembly majority conference, which includes advising Assembly Members and Assembly employees on legal matters pertaining to their respective positions, as well as providing overall legal support to the institution.
The duties of the Administrative Assistant include, but are not limited to:
• Routine administrative responsibilities:
o Receiving and routing telephone requests
o Maintaining various file systems
o Preparing documents (form letters, item requisitions, memoranda)
o Routine clerical operations (inventory supply and ordering, routing mail)
• Support the work of O.C.T.M, including but not limited to:
o Reviewing and responding to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL requests)
o Reviewing legislation for compliance with constitutional requirements
o Monitoring litigation
• Maintain confidentiality of both intra-office and interoffice communications, regarding litigation or other sensitive materials
• Perform any additional tasks as may be necessary for the proper functioning of the office
This is a full-time (Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm) in-office position requiring some evening and occasional weekend availability during the legislative session (as well as special session in the event it is convened).
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
• Prior experience in administrative support or similar roles requiring effective communication and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including web-based and desktop applications
• Ability to learn and navigate legislative applications

The ideal candidate will be well-organized, have good interpersonal communication skills, exercise good judgment, and be able to work in an environment that is at times fast paced and busy. Prior experience as a legal secretary or a paralegal is a plus.
