Duties Description Reporting to the Chief AI Officer, the Deputy Chief AI Officer (SG-M6) would assist in developing and implementing the statewide strategies for Artificial Intelligence technologies. This position will be responsible for guiding the?department’s data-driven decision-making capabilities and bolster its analytical frameworks. Duties include the following:
• Provide direction and oversight for AI projects to ensure they meet agency policy and standards of practice.
• Responsible for coordinating AI use, encouraging AI innovation, and managing AI-related risks within the agency.?
• Lead the identification of opportunities within the agency for leveraging AI to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making processes, and drive innovation forward.
• Assist in tracking AI projects as required by NYS AI Policy
• Oversee the integration of AI technologies into existing systems and processes to enhance functionality, optimize performance and achieve organizational objectives.
• Identify emerging AI technologies and trends to inform investment decisions and maintain technical relevance.

Minimum Qualifications Eight (8) years of experience in developing, leading, and managing critical technology projects.

Four (4) of which must have been at the management level, with a strong foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the formulation, development, and implementation of AI solutions.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Eight (8) or more years of leadership experience managing technology staff and leading technology projects
• Experience writing and creating standards, guidelines, and procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: able to work across business lines at senior levels to influence and effect change to achieve common goals.
• Analytical skills: outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities with an understanding of statistical analytics and how data is used to enable informed decision making, identify opportunities for better business outcomes.
• Data skills: deep understanding of data including data system design, ETL, pipeline, modeling, quality, and architectural concepts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, as well as business concepts to technologists; able to sell ideas and process internally at all levels.
• Proven record of effective leadership, including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; building teams and consensus; getting things done through others not directly under their supervision; working ethically and with integrity.
• Strong foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the ability to formulate, develop, and implement AI solutions.
