Duties Description New York State legislative District office in Brooklyn, NY – is seeking a skilled and proactive Communications Director to manage all aspects of media, messaging, and public engagement. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, strategic thinker, and experienced in navigating fast-paced political or government environments. This full-time in-person position involves collaboration with internal staff, press outlets, and community stakeholders across both district and Albany-based responsibilities.
Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson.
• Draft press releases, speeches, statements, newsletters, and op-eds
• Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategy.
• Manage and grow social media presence and engagement.
• Coordinate press events, community outreach, and digital campaigns
• Monitor media trends and support rapid response efforts.
• Travel as required.

Minimum Qualifications Qualifications
• 2–3+ years of experience in government, journalism, advocacy, or political comms
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with New York’s legislative and media environment
• Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, social scheduling tools, etc.
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in high-pressure settings.
• Bilingual or multilingual applicants strongly encouraged to apply; a Haitian-creole and or Spanish speaker. But not required.
• Ability to travel periodically.
