Duties Description As a Park Worker 3 in Park Operations, under the supervision of the Director of Caumsett and a Park Supervisor, would work with and directly supervise small crews for routine and special projects; be responsible for supervising shifts in the Park Operations department and attendant zone offices; operate large and small equipment to complete routine and special projects; train staff in standard agency policies, procedures, and equipment operation; assist with the operation of special events; as well as other duties as required.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Supervise permanent and seasonal employees to ensure safe and timely completion of assignments to best meet operational needs. Ensure that employees are well prepared and trained to perform assigned tasks and regularly inspect and follow up on their work to ensure that tasks are completed thoroughly in a timely fashion.
• Conduct inspections of facilities to ensure that they are presentable, and that quality, sanitary services, and conditions are being maintained for the public using established procedures and standards. Inspections must be thorough, detailed, and timely, and deficiencies are followed up in a fashion consistent with park needs and standards.
• Work closely with park staff, concession management, police, fire, and ambulance services to ensure prompt and effective responses to emergencies. Follow agency Emergency Operations Protocols to promptly notify Park Management of any incidents, and complete required incident reports.
• Initiate, complete and review standard reports and record keeping in an accurate and timely fashion. Written reports should be concise, thorough, detailed, and objective in nature.
• Supervise and oversee operational and recreational facilities in the absence of higher-level supervisors in order to provide a safe, clean, and attractive facility to park patrons. Inspect area for the need of skilled maintenance personnel and initiate and follow up on work requests to the Regional Maintenance Department for such projects.
• Implement the training of staff in the standard procedures governing park operations, equipment operation, and safety. Additionally, ensure that standard procedures are followed.
• Operate light motorized equipment such as tractors, mowers, trucks, and woodchippers; operate hand equipment such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, hand mowers, and hedge trimmers, and train other employees to perform the same tasks.
• Perform and supervise building and grounds maintenance including, but not limited to: restroom cleaning, refuse collection and removal, snow and ice removal, seeding, fertilizing, planting, pruning, and mowing to maintain buildings, lawns, flower beds, shrub beds, and trees in an attractive manner using hand tools and motorized equipment.
• As the needs of the facility can vary along with unpredictable conditions, this position will be expected to take on other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR

One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR

An Associate’s or higher-level degree*, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR

Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
