Duties Description The Division of Employment and Workforce Solutions (DEWS) provides career and employment resources, training, and a variety of other services for individual job seekers, businesses, and other stakeholders. The work includes extensive data reporting and analysis, as well as technical assistance and training to support state and local partners across New York State.

The primary focus of the Reentry Unit is to train and support Reentry Staff at Career Centers in NYS who work with job seekers that have previous involvement with the criminal justice system. Lastly, the unit oversees the administration of the Federal Bonding Program, a hiring incentive for businesses in New York.

The primary focus of the CEED Unit includes developing tools and resources to connect job seekers with employment and education in the cannabis industry in New York State, connecting businesses with job seekers, and supporting the rollout of an equitable cannabis industry.

Program examples include attendance and presentations at statewide career and information summits, further development of tools and resources for job seekers and businesses, and continued integration with the workforce development system. CEED uses various software and platforms to provide information and track work, including Tableau, Microsoft Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite, to name a few. This will be an exciting and fast paced opportunity. The student assistant will further develop skills and gain work experience while adding value to the success of CEED.

While working with the CDI Reentry Unit, the intern will become familiar with programs, protections, and policies for justice involved individuals in New York State. The intern will apply their skills in project management and knowledge of Microsoft Teams to create a resource of Reentry Information and materials that can be accessed on-demand by Reentry Employment Specialists and Employment Counselors working at New York State Department of Labor Career Centers.
