Duties Description This position oversees the efficient and reliable operation of the central heating plant, HTHW distribution, cooling systems, and ice rink equipment. Responsibilities include scheduling and managing plant operations, performing and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring safe, timely completion of work. The Plant Utilities Engineer 2 will develop daily operating schedules (all shifts, vacation, relief, and overtime), supervise and evaluate staff (typically 7 PUE1s and 1 HVAC-R mechanic), and provide guidance, coaching, and safety oversight. Duties also include maintaining generator inspection records, planning and coordinating CHP projects, overseeing water treatment and pump seal replacements, and managing inventory, purchasing, and budget compliance. The role also requires identifying and implementing operational improvements, including energy reduction, training, and efficiency measures. The use of appropriate PPE, selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks, and attending job related training is also required. Additional Comments The Central Heating Plant maintains all heating, air conditioning, hot water, ventilation, and refrigeration services as well as overseeing the proper functioning of all elevators on campus. We also answer after hours calls and provide service, as needed, and are a 24/7 operation. We are part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources.
