Duties Description Reports to the Plant Utilities Engineer 4 and assists in facility engineering. Supervises the activities of maintenance and custodial staff.

Responsible for the operation and maintenance, as well as the tests and calibrations of all electrical components, including high voltage electrical distribution systems and equipment and emergency diesel power generation systems for critical building components at the direction of the Plant Utilities Engineer 4.

Maintains uninterrupted power supply system for critical building components; and other building systems including, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot water, plumbing, refrigeration, compressed air, laboratory vacuum systems, water purification, laboratory gas systems and lines, building and evidence security and monitoring systems, as well as fire detection and sprinkler structures.

Coordinates installation and/or maintenance of all computer and telephone cabling.

Responsible for the oversight of systems maintenance, health and safety issues, and energy conservation projects, including the maintenance of laboratory hoods, biological safety cabinets and other chemical storage areas.

In conjunction with the Plant Utilities Engineer 4, participates in off hours monitoring and maintenance of the above listed laboratory systems requiring 24 hour availability to return to the building.

Prepares and administers facility related service contracts.

Assists in the completion of other engineering repairs and maintenance at other Division of State Police Installations.

Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1, SG-14, or higher,

OR

Two years of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Assistant, SG-9,

OR

Four years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, HVAC, or auxiliary plant utilities equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities

NOTE: Thirty (30) college credit hours in any combination of the following course areas may be substituted for one year of the above mentioned experience: Heating, Ventilation Boiler and Steam Systems and Air Conditioning Industrial Electricity; Electrical Circuits Electric Utility Systems; Fluid Mechanics Plant Operation and Technical Communications Maintenance; Thermal Dynamics Industrial Instrumentation; Physics and Control; Utility Refrigeration Industrial Safety; Mechanics Environmental Air Quality; and, Blue Print Reading and Sketching.

Preference may be given to candidates who possess certifications such as EPA Section 608, North American Technician Excellence (NATE), Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), OSHA Safety, HVAC, Electric/Gas Heat, ASHRAE.

Please note: Completed technical certifications in any of the above areas may be substituted for part, or all, of the 30-college credit allowable substitution.
