Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Education Specialist position in the P-12 Deputy Commissioner’s Office. This position will be responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of program activities for My Sister’s Keeper (MSK) STEM Program. This program is a transformative initiative designed to confront racial and gender gaps in STEM by providing holistic, equity-centered, experiential programming for students in grades 6–12 with a focus on girls and young women of color. This program builds on the foundation of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative and aligns with New York State’s goals for equity, excellence, and representation in education and workforce development.

The incumbent of the position will be responsible for aligning MSK STEM efforts with New York State’s broader equity and workforce development goals, managing partnerships with schools, community organizations, and industry, and ensuring that programming is rigorous, experiential, and accessible to the students who need it most. By providing strategic oversight and operational leadership, this position will be the driving force in translating the vision of MSK STEM into measurable, lasting outcomes for students and for the state’s future STEM talent pipeline. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Maintain and update a comprehensive project management tracker that outlines all MSK STEM Program milestones, deadlines, responsible parties, and completion status to ensure timely execution of each phase from planning through post-event evaluation;
• Collaborate with NYSED-identified stakeholder groups to obtain input and provide updates about the initiative;
• Develop and manage the process for submitting an RFP to determine any vendors needed for the initiative;
• Coordinate, oversee, and monitor the contract between NYSED and the identified vendors and engage in clear and consistent communication;
• Collaborate closely with other offices at NYSED including the Office of Standards and Instructional Programs and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to ensure MSK STEM programming aligns with NYS learning standards, CRS-E Framework and best practices in instructional strategies;
• Prepare reports regarding updates and correspondence for P-12 management and;
• Work alongside NYSED staff regarding initiative updates to the Board of Regents.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher and five years of experience in teaching or youth programming, utilizing a strong diversity, equity, and inclusion lens, including culturally responsive strategies. A J.D. or master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree and professional experience will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. This position will require 30% in-state/Statewide travel. The filling of this position is contingent upon funding approval.

Based on this position’s location, in addition to the listed base salary, this position also receives a $4,000 Downstate Adjustment Pay.
