Duties Description OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Security Guard License as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to work a variable schedule including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.
• Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
• Will receive training in First Aid/CPR, ATV/UTV operation, and basic chainsaw use.
REASSIGNMENT:
Selected candidates currently serving as a Park Ranger will be reassigned to this location and assignment.
NOTE: Candidates must have served as a Park Ranger for one season prior to reassignment.
Reassignment will be subject to approval of the gaining and contributing parks. Employees presently serving, or those that have served as a Park Ranger are encouraged to apply.
NON-COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT:
Must be at least age 18 at time of appointment and must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license when required to drive state vehicles; must be able to physically perform the duties of the position; must successfully complete a background investigation including fingerprinting; and must successfully complete 24 hours of Security Guard training and obtain and maintain a New York State Security Guard Certification.
Minimum Qualifications None per Civil Service.

*Fees may apply: Candidates who are not presently serving as a Park Ranger may be required to pay for background fingerprinting ($101.75) and NYS Security Guard License Application Fee ($36) prior to employment*
**Park Rangers are subject to the provisions of the Security Guard Act of 1993, are unarmed, and have neither peace nor police officer status.**
