Duties Description New York State Senator Julia Salazar (Brooklyn/Queens) is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, proactive individual to fill the role of an Administrative Assistant in her Albany Office. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a passion for public service to work with an elected official whose agenda is focused on expanding tenant protections and permanently affordable housing, enhancing equitable health care access and services, protecting reproductive rights, establishing fair tax policy, achieving climate justice, ensuring strong labor protections, and transforming the criminal legal system on behalf of safety, justice, and dignity, both inside prisons and in our communities. The position is in-person and full-time (35 hours per week). The prospective start date is December 1, 2025.
The primary responsibilities include:
• Greet and direct visitors
• Accept, screen, log, and route telephone calls
o This often requires speaking with constituents about legislation, access to governmental services, and meeting requests.
o It also involves speaking with incarcerated individuals and their families, as relevant to Senator Salazar’s role as the Chair of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee.
• Sort, screen, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and operate a variety of office equipment
• Facilitate communication with other Senate offices and outside stakeholders to form relationships that maximize the Senator’s external contacts
• Perform a range of staff and/or operational support activities
Minimum Qualifications • Administrative support experience. Experience in government administration, scheduling, or operations preferred; previous experience with elected officials a plus
• Proficiency at Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Google Docs
• Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of the political landscape in New York State and New York City. Preference will be given to an applicant with a demonstrated knowledge of relevant organizations and interests
• Commitment to work collaboratively and professionally with other legislative offices
• Ability to be in person in the Albany Office daily. (This is not a hybrid/remote position.)
Additional Comments Compensation ranges from $67,000 to $72,000 commensurate with education and experience.
