Duties Description ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.

Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner for Technology, SG-NS, the Cloud Operations Lead is a critical leadership role responsible for the overall health, performance, security, and scalability of our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. This role oversees all aspects of GCP operations, including provisioning, monitoring, identity and access management (IAM), and the DevOps CI/CD pipeline. The Director will lead a team of cloud engineers and DevOps specialists, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of cloud-based services while maintaining a strong security posture.
Specific duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• GCP Operations Management:
o Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of our Google Cloud Platform environment.
o Ensure the availability, performance, and scalability of GCP services.
o Develop and implement operational best practices and procedures for GCP.
o Manage GCP resource allocation and optimization to control costs.
o Oversee incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for GCP-related issues.
o Manage vendor relationships with Google and other relevant cloud service providers.
• Provisioning and Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
o Oversee the provisioning of GCP resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools, primarily Terraform.
o Develop and maintain Terraform modules and templates for consistent and repeatable infrastructure deployments.
o Ensure proper version control and documentation of IaC configurations.
• Monitoring and Alerting:
o Establish comprehensive monitoring and alerting systems for GCP services and infrastructure.
o Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level objectives (SLOs) for GCP services.
o Implement automated monitoring and alerting dashboards to proactively identify and address potential issues.
• Identity and Access Management (IAM):
o Manage GCP IAM policies and roles to ensure secure access to cloud resources.
o Implement and enforce least privilege access principles.
o Oversee user provisioning and de-provisioning processes.
o Conduct regular audits of IAM configurations to identify and address security vulnerabilities.
• DevOps CI/CD Pipeline:
o Lead the DevOps team in managing and optimizing the CI/CD pipeline for software releases.
o Oversee the implementation of automated build scripts, code scanning, and security vulnerability scanning tools.
o Ensure the security and integrity of the CI/CD pipeline.
o Manage the release process, ensuring smooth and reliable deployments to GCP.
• Security and Compliance:
o Implement and maintain security best practices for GCP.
o Oversee security vulnerability scanning and remediation efforts.
o Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and security standards (e.g., SOC 2, CJIS, PUB1075).
o Manage VM server patching and security updates.
• Team Leadership:
o Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cloud engineers and DevOps specialists.
o Set performance goals and provide regular feedback to team members.
o Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications Seven years of experience in computer science, information technology, or a related field, including one year of supervisory experience.

The following degrees may substitute for the general experience as indicated:
• Associate’s degree and six years of experience.
• Associate’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and five years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and four years of experience.
• Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience.
• Doctorate in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional 2 years of experience.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
