Duties Description Duties Description:

Under the supervision of the Internal Auditor 3 or other manager, the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Leading internal audits and special projects within the Department; may be assigned to work independently on an audit.
• Evaluating Department programs, functions and systems to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, the quality of operational performance and to identify areas of process improvement.
• Developing plans to achieve objectives, performing required work in accordance with approved plans and standards.
• Analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting data collected in order to accomplish audit objectives.
• Prepares or directs the preparation of findings reports.
• Arranges for recommendation follow-up to determine corrective action has been taken and is effective
• Managing several projects concurrently and providing appropriate supervision and development of staff auditors.
• Participates in annual audit planning activities.
• Acting as a liaison to auditors from external agencies, including coordinating audit activities, providing assistance to program managers during the audit process, overseeing Departmental responses to audits and providing feedback to management on the status of ongoing audit activities.
Occasional travel may (approximately 10 percent) be required to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

OR

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
To be eligible, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or 55-b/55-c service as: Either (A) an Internal Auditor 1, Senior Internal Auditor, Internal Auditor Trainee 1, or Internal Auditor Trainee 2 or (B) an Auditor 1, Auditor 1 (Abandoned Property), Auditor 1 (Fiscal Systems), Auditor 1 (Municipal), Auditor 1 (Tax), Data Processing Fiscal Systems Auditor 1, Senior Abandoned Property Accounts Auditor, Senior Accountant, Senior Auditor, Senior Examiner of Municipal Affairs, State Program Examiner 1, State Program Examiner 1 (Fiscal), State Program Examiner 1 (Systems), or Tax Auditor 1.
