Duties Description Standard Duties:
Under the direction of the Data Analyst 2, the duties of the Data Analyst 1 include but are not limited to the following:
•Work with business units to develop and build models in support of analytic use cases
•Development, maintenance and support of reports and dashboards based on user stories or program requests, querying data repositories for ad hoc requests or the creation of reports
•Draft technical requirements: ensure standards are adhered to for consistent data collection, storage, and access.
•Coordinate with program staff in identifying data definitions, along with the cleansing and maintenance of data
•Provide input on current approaches and recommends improvements to best achieve goals, reviews and suggests improvements to current or planned systems and processes
•Perform data extraction, aggregation, and quality checks from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification and root cause analysis, summarizes results, creates written reports and collaborates with staff to develop business intelligence solutions

Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
Data Analyst Trainee 1:
You must have a bachelor's degree* or higher.
Data Analyst Trainee 2:
You must have a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
Data Analyst 1:
You must have a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.
*Substitution:
A master's degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, may substitute for one (1) year of the specialized experience.
A Ph.D. degree in the above fields may substitute for two (2) years of the specialized experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Formal training or experience in data analytics or business intelligence tools like Tableau, Power BI, Python, SAS, or R.
2. Experience in building queries, conducting data validation, and cleaning datasets using SQL or similar query languages. Experience supporting the development of data models, dashboards, and visual reports that help drive decision-making. Experience working with internal or external stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
3. Strong understanding of data structures, relational databases, and query logic. Ability to identify and interpret trends, patterns, and anomalies within complex datasets. Skilled in presenting data findings in a clear and accessible format to both technical and non-technical audiences. Familiarity with data visualization best-practices and interactive dashboard development. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
4. Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
Additional Comments Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.
