Duties Description May perform any of the duties of Office Assistant 1, and typically supervise two or more lower level staff. Non-supervisory positions perform complicated clerical and office support activities that require substantive knowledge of the program and/or the programs governing laws, rules, or regulations. Such las, rules, or regulations may be subject to frequent changes. Incumbents typically handle sensitive applications, requests, or inquiries in which management or executive staff may be contacted or interested. They also perform activities that may require coordination with internal and external parties. Duties of non-supervisory Office Assistant 2 may include the following: clerical processing procedures, gather, compile, and prepare data from manual or automated files.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications for Non-Competitive Appointment: one year of clerical experience where most work time is spent performing keyboarding, data entry, chart compilation or arrangement, or various tasks involving typing into computerized systems.
*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While
serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
