Duties Description The Wadsworth Center operates with the Office of Cannabis Management to serve as the New York State Cannabis Reference Laboratory. A Research Scientist 4 is needed to lead the organic section of the Cannabis Reference Laboratory Program. The incumbent will provide oversight, technical leadership, and direction of the daily operations of the Cannabis Reference Laboratory including testing, research investigations, and research into new methods and assays.
Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences, AND five years of professional post-degree research experience* in the appropriate field
*Substitutions: a master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and a doctorate in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: A PhD in a related discipline with the ability to obtain federal and state background clearance to handle controlled substances; demonstrated experience in sample preparation and trace level analytical method development and validation utilizing organic chemistry methodology (i.e., Solid Phase Extraction Complex matrix extractions, Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, and Tandem Mass Spectrometry); experience in an accredited/regulated laboratory setting, preferably cannabis, including proficiency in the application of NYS Office of Cannabis Management and ISO 17025 requirements; proficient in Microsoft applications (such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including designing and validating Excel worksheets to evaluate laboratory data sets) and experience using laboratory information management system (LIMS); and demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize workloads, and effectively manage and direct 5+ staff.

Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
