Duties Description Responds to ad hoc requests from within DOL, other state agencies or from the general public when necessary.

Instruct, train and supervise co-workers who assist. Verify, evaluate and analyze Unemployment Insurance data.

Create charts, tables and graphs to display the data, using Excel or other appropriate software application.

Prepare any written narrative or analysis of the data displays using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook or other software.

Compile, verify and analyze UI data from the Data Warehouse, legacy mainframe and UISIM source.

Assist in replicating reports from the legacy mainframe system or other source using the Data Warehouse.

Assist with special research projects such as the UISIM project and participate in original studies or on other work groups.

Display positive interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills with coworkers and when completing work assignments.

Provide technical training sessions on the Extract Transfer Load (ETL) process, data validation, and automation tools to improve staff capability which ties in directly with the UISIM project.

Lead and mentor fellow staff in data analysis techniques, SQL development, and best practices for documentation and reporting.

Develop samples of best practices in reporting through collaboration with fellow staff and documented practices.

Evaluate scenarios based on current UI system processes and verify that the new system can produce similar results.

Conduct in-depth analyses comparing system outputs to validate accuracy and identify trends or discrepancies during system rollouts.

Minimum Qualifications Competitive Minimum Qualifications:

Reassignment Qualifications: (DOL EMPLOYEES ONLY)
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in an Associate Economist (Labor Research), Grade 23; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Associate Economist (Labor Research) eligible list for this location, if one exists.

70.1 Transfer Qualifications:
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 23 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service.

52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications:
To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as a Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or a Senior Economist (Labor Research). If 3 or fewer qualified Department of Labor Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or Senior Economist (Labor Research) respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or Senior Economist (Labor Research) without further examination.

Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.

Provisional Qualifications:
Candidates with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as a Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), or a Senior Economist (Labor Research) may apply. The appointed candidate would have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
