Duties Description Provide social work and treatment services to incarcerated individuals in a prison setting, assess and evaluate incarcerated individuals strengths and limitations, and records significant psychological events and/or changes in clinical conditions. Provides individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention, stabilization, and follow up services to incarcerated individuals who may be a danger to themselves o others. Helps incarcerated individuals identify goals and solutions to various short-term mental, emotional, behavioral, and environmental conditions, and uses therapy to address illnesses and disorders, including mental illnesses, emotional disturbances, marital and family difficulties, adjustment problems related to acute and chronic illness, addiction, substance use, behavioral, and learning disorders. Prepares and maintains documentation and records, including progress notes, observations, and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). (*Please see below for further information).
Non-Competitive Qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a licensed clinical social worker in New York State.
*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to complete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
