Duties Description Under the direction of the Information Technology Specialist 4 (Operations), SG-25, within the Chief Technology Office/Data Center Services/Console and Print Operations, the position will be responsible for providing 24 X7 service to our customer agencies in an IBM mainframe, Unisys A series, Unisys 2200 series, and/or open systems environment. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Manage data center resources proficiently to provide acceptable service in mission-critical environment;
• Assign staff to properly meet data center and agency goals;
• Monitor specific functions performed by console operations staff, such as Initial Program Loads (IPLs), on the IBM mainframe;
• Supervise communications between staff and customer agencies or vendors to ensure proper responses;
• Check production print for quality control;
• Execute the established procedures for problem escalation;
• Understand and participate in Change Management and Problem Management processes;
• Notify appropriate parties regarding application or system problems, according to procedure;
• Create daily reports, charts, statistics, and databases;
• Ensure operators understand how to perform basic cleaning and maintenance of the printer hardware and review the schedules to make sure they are followed;
• Keep print room procedures documented and current;
• Keep all print room statistics and other pertinent print room information current; and
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications You must be reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title or be eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Transfers:
To be eligible for a 52.6 or 70.1 transfer, you must have one year of permanent service in a qualifying transferable title allocated to salary grade 21 or above.

Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State and have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Supervising Computer Operator. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Chief Computer Operator when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered.
