Duties Description Overseen and guided by the Investment Accounting Director, the Finance intern will:
• Learn fundamental investment accounting concepts as well as Statutory accounting principles applicable to investment accounting for insurance companies.
• Learn about, and participate in, the activities performed within NYSIF’s Investment Accounting Unit to help ensure accurate financial reporting for a complex investment portfolio that includes equities (common stocks), fixed income securities, and alternative investments (e.g., private credit, private equity, real estate).
• Use state-of-the-art investment and investment accounting software systems, including BlackRock Aladdin and the Bloomberg terminal.
• Assist the Investment Accounting Unit by supporting operations and completing projects.
• Interact with, and learn from, staff within various areas of NYSIF’s Finance Department.
• Prepare a presentation reflecting internship activities and outcomes, and present to an audience from the Finance Department.
Minimum Qualifications • Be a permanent New York State (NYS) resident and/or actively enrolled in a NYS college or University.
• Be actively enrolled in a college, university, or graduate program.
• Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate program.
• Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, or the letter grade equivalent.
• Able to work full-time Summer (37.50 hours weekly)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Major or minor/concentration in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
• Proficiency in MS Office products a plus.
