Duties Description SUNY Geneseo is searching for a team member to become our next University Police Officer 1! As a University Police Officer 1, you will enforce all New York State and local laws, as well as the student code of conduct on the grounds of the State University of New York at Geneseo.

University Police Officers (UPO 1) are charged with full police powers under Criminal Procedure Law, Section 1.20(34)(S), and are responsible for performing the full range of professional police duties.

As part of your regular duties, you will assist other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies with investigations, collect evidence, question witnesses or testify in court. UPO1s are actively involved in campus communities and activities, including educating community members on topics such as personal safety, risk awareness, crime prevention, alcohol/drug awareness, sexual assault prevention and other safety issues.

This position operates on a rotational shift including nights, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have permanent appointment in a University Police Officer 1 (UPO1), SG-14 classified position; OR be reachable for appointment on the current New York State Civil Service canvass list for SUNY Geneseo’s area location for the UPO1, SG-14; OR be eligible via transfer.

In addition to meeting one of these qualifications, prior to appointment, you’ll also need:
-proof of completing the physical agility test
-to meet the established physical and medical requirements of the position
-possession of a valid unrestricted New York State driver’s license
-to be legally eligible to carry a firearm
-to have completed all requirements for certification as a police officer in New York State
