Duties Description Duration: May-September 2026 (flexible start & end date)
Location: Bear Mountain State Park
Hours: 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Undergraduate pay rate: $19.04/hour
Graduate pay rate: $21.57/hour

The GIS intern will support the Palisades Region in the assessment and mapping of infrastructure to assess threats from climate change impacts and develop resiliency plans.

Job duties:
• With Regional GIS Specialist and Regional Staff, expand the current database facilities, infrastructure, and habitats that are potentially threatened by climate change.
• Using GIS, survey the elements of the list and develop a geodatabase that includes location, condition information, photographs, and other info as desired.
• Analyze data and develop reports as need to assist in the preparation of a resiliency plan for the region’s infrastructure

Additional Comments This internship is only open to currently enrolled SUNY students.

Operational Needs:
• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree at a SUNY institution in environmental studies, GIS, or similar discipline.
• Must have expertise with GPS/GIS and be able to collect data independently in a variety of conditions
• Candidate must be self-motivated, able to initiate projects and tasks, have good time management and organizational skills, and effectively work with others.
• Candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
