Duties Description The Medical Assistance Specialist 2 (MAS 2) position will work within the DEMI Bureau of Exchange Application Support performing activities related to Medicaid expansion and eligibility initiatives, including overseeing or directly processing consumer requests and stakeholder referrals related to eligibility and enrollment provided through the NY State of Health Marketplace.
The incumbent will serve as a unit manager overseeing staff who process tasks related to eligibility and enrollment issues; directly resolving complex or escalated consumer issues; assisting with quality assurance activities, and/or assisting with systems activities. This may include supervision of multiple levels of staff; providing technical assistance; interacting with consumers and internal or external stakeholders; preparation of training documents, work procedures, or job aids; delivery of training; performing quality assurance reviews on a sample of work; and assistance with management of the Bureau.
Minimum Qualifications Reassignment:
Current Department of Health (DOH) employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Medical Assistance Specialist 2, G-23.
Transfer:
Current NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service in a title eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to a Medical Assistance Specialist 2, G-23.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have professional experience in public health insurance programs, including New York’s Medicaid and/or Medicare. Preferred candidates will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical skills and attention to detail; strong organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); the ability to work well independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities in order to meet deadlines; and experience using electronic data systems, such as eMedNY and NYSOH Back Office. Supervisory experience is a plus.
