Duties Description The Division of Lands and Forests is looking for a seasonal Environmental Education Assistant to support the Division’s outreach section within the Division Direction Bureau. The Division’s mission is to care for and enhance New York's lands, forests, and natural resources for the benefit of all, through the care, custody, and control of state-owned lands, and the promotion, use, and protection of natural resources. The candidate will be a member of a team that provides outreach and education support to the Division’s programs and will primarily focus on topics involving invasive species and forest health. Other topics may include promoting Governor Hochul’s initiative to plant 25 Million Trees by 2033, forestry, open space conservation, and topics related to outdoor recreation.
The tasks for this position include:
-Working with staff in the Bureau of Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health (BISEH) to assist with their outreach needs
-Working with staff in other bureaus with outreach needs as assigned
-Assisting with developing outreach materials, including webpages, print products, newsletters, and social media posts
-Mailing outreach materials
-Tracking BISEH outreach metrics and project timelines.

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to use Microsoft Office programs
-Good organization skills
-Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
-Detail oriented
-Experience communicating with the public and creating outreach materials
Minimum Qualifications one year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year of college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2027. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
